In the Margins
A monthly for light reading on a Sunday afternoon, or the quiet nights that follow long days of work. Unlike a standard publication, its subject keeps wandering off — which we have decided to allow.
It is, nominally, a magazine about a shop. In practice it concerns almost everything except the shop: The afternoon light, briefly honeyed against the glass, the radial floor underfoot, a cup of coffee with a striking dash of red lipstick, the sound of a zipper, and the small coincidences a space collects.
So this is where we will keep those things: the observations, accidents and small bits of beauty that gather around a place when people spend enough time in it, none of which were ever meant to be bought.

Some things look better with a little interference: a dress reflected in the glass, a figure passing through it, the afternoon light making a disco of the room.

A 1962 record sleeve for Calcutta, a colour palette we would still wear, and a party from a decade that was never ours.

We saw Bobo’s flamingo and immediately wanted to put it onto her, into an afternoon that happened long before we existed.

The eye is a strange little archivist. It keeps things you thought you'd forgotten and brings them back when something looks vaguely familiar.

Stay long enough and the ordinary begins to perform. Stop & stare
We notice, so that you might too.
